Jackson Park Chili Cook off
The boy scouts of Jackson Park School, held their annual chili cook off and I was there with my camera. Mostly I was playing with the Pentax 16-50mm f/2.8 lens that I rented and wanted to see how it worked in the low light. It did a good job, but trying to add a little fill light with just the camera’s built in flash caused a nasty round shadow at the bottom of the image. Typical for a large lens with lens hood on.
Olivia’s brownie troop was there selling desserts that really hit the spot after trying to taste 20 different chili recipes. ![]()
I was then asked by Mr. Barnes to get some photos of the award winners. He sure does appear to have fun being the emcee.

Mom Me Makeover Fashion Show
I recently photographed “Soul Style” a fashion show held to raise funds for a couple non-profits that support abused and neglected women & children. It was sponsored by Mom Me Makeover and was held at Quintessential Nightclub in St. Charles. It was a good event and fun to photograph, but unfortunately the lighting was tough and one of my flashes crapped out in the practice run. Fortunately I carry back up gear and was still able to get a few photos.
The night started with some opera music and then moved quickly into the fashion portion.

Is there fiber in FroYo?

Our family loves to walk to the Loop and partake in a lovely dessert from FroYo. I have even posted a video featuring Mia enjoying her FroYo. When the FroYo in the Loop is busy, you end up waiting in line right in front of their nutritional information display. This thing is big, almost stretching from ceiling to floor. It is two sections, the first on the left with the numbers the one on the right describing how great FroYo is.
So why is it that the numbers under the nutritional value state:

And on the right it says something completely contrary?

Now this is not going to keep me from enjoying a nice evening of a self made frozen yougurt dessert with my family and friends, but it will make me chuckle every time I go.
It has also given me the opportunity to kick off a new category on my website: ”Rants, Raves & Observations“. I am now going to go back and change my General Category posts to Rants, Raves & Observations. I much prefer the sound of it over General.
New Cluster!
Jeffrey’s day in four and a half minutes
The other day I got another weird idea. I think it came to me right after reading Chase Jarvis‘ post: Create. Share. Sustain.
What would a typical day of mine look like as a bunch of small video clips?
After all, I have this great, portable video camera that is easy to quickly turn on and start recording. Why not use its best features? So the other day (Tuesday if it makes a difference to you) I decided to record some of the interesting and not so interesting things that happen. There was nothing out of the ordinary planned, with the exception of meeting Kate and her baby daughter, Madeline, for lunch. But I hoped that putting all of the typical, mundane things that I do together in a relatively short video might prove to be interesting.
Was I right? You be the judge. Watch the video and let me know. Is it interesting, or am I way too self absorbed?
Snow day = SLEDDING!
It was a snow day for U. City schools, along with most of St. Louis, so we went sledding. Since I am loving my new Flip video camera, it came with us.
Unfortunately the bitter cold killed the battery in now time, but we did get some fun shots.
