Your Pot’s Desire
My article on the U. City Patch site
A few weeks ago I was contacted by the Local Editor for UniversityCityPatch.com. Some how she found this website and asked if I would be interested in writing a blog posting about being a dad in U. City. How could I say no?
While I am definitely not a writer, I figured this would be something fun to do and a good way to improve my writing. It might also give me something to work on in the mornings, now that I am an early riser, instead of just saying good morning to my friends. So I noodled the idea of writing about being a dad around for a few days and one question kept forcing its way to the front. “Am I lucky or lazy?“
Penguins on parade
NOTE: This post has been updated (01/17/11) to include a video (click first image to watch) , photos and more story.During the months of December-February, the St.Louis Zoo puts on a penguin parade every Sunday at 2 pm. It is quite fun to be a part of, and you almost are a part of it. While the zoo does not want the spectators to go touch the penguins, they will let the penguins walk right up to you.

The zoo keepers also do a pretty good job on not hurrying the parade so everyone has a good oportunity to see and photograph the penguins. Can you really hurry a penguin?

Of course there is more to the St. Louis Zoo than just the penguins.

Pretty cool, especially since the zoo is free to enter!
Good Morning Scags
Just a test to see if I can get up and be productive before 6am. I did not quite make my goal of posting this before 6, but I am close.
Originally a rant, turns into a double fail
I am not the world’s biggest or best advocate, far from it. But there are certain things that just make me shake my head and wonder, “How could they miss this?”
One such instance hit me today when I stopped by the U. City post office. When I went in, something seemed a little off, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Not until I walked out the power assisted door and looked down the ramp, a ramp that was put in just a few years ago to make an old, beautiful building accessible to people who use wheel chairs, scooters or other mobility equipment.
The ramp was still covered in snow. As is so common to say, Fail! Probably a simple oversight, but come on.
Now my first response was to pull out my phone and take a couple photos documenting the problem so I could upload them to the web and complain, showing everyone how awesome I am.
Fail!
Why did I not just walk back in and let someone know about the problem. Nope, that did not occur to me until I got home and started typing up this post.
Fortunately I found some common sense and called the post office to let them know about the snow covered ramp. I spoke with a kind woman who sounded a bit embarrassed about the oversight. She thanked me and said it would be addressed. I am confident it will be.
Now my post turned from my original, bashing to a gentle reminder to clean your ramps and simply remind those who forget.
But I am still going to post the photos of a snow covered ramp.
