Storytelling in a photo about storytelling

The 11th episode of the Articulate Ventures podcast is "Storytelling, Winning Arguments & Negotiations" and once again it is my task to make a photograph that tells a story about storytelling.

I took the easy road and simply had Mia pose holding a book as if she is reading a story for the viewer. In a small homage to one of my favorite stories I had Mia hold a Calvin & Hobbes collection as her storybook. It seems right considering the upcoming release of the documentary, "Dear Mr. Watterson."

Portraits in the sun

Shooting in the mid day sun typically not the best choice for portraits, but sometimes that is how things work out. A friend asked me to shoot senior portraits of her daughter, but the only time we could get together was at 2pm. Fortunately I had my assistant who was willing to be a stand in model so I could practice and test the high speed sync of my flash. Overall, I'm pretty happy. I'll post the senior photos soon.

Stunts in the park

For me the best way to have fun in the park involves my family and my camera. So when Mia wanted to go spend sometime in the park I grabbed my camera and hoped to be able to get a decent photo or two.

I was pretty pleased with this one of Mia jumping off the wall because I got it on the first try. Typically a shot like this would take three, four or more attempts to get the shutter speed, lighting, composure and camera movement just right.

In addition to jumping, climbing a tree turned out to be another good photo opportunity.  Although I don't shoot much video, I had to get a short one of Mia working on her cartwheels and splits. The improvement she has shown since she started cheer classes has been dramatic and quite fun to watch.

How do people see you

I do a podcast on communication with my friend Vance of Articulate Ventures. The podcast is centered around communication and the patterns within. For the past couple episodes my daughters have helped me produce the image that goes along with the audio. This week's episode is on stereotypes, so I came up with this image. What do you think?

The previous weeks were about email and not hearing back from someone.
