Thanksgiving 2020

While 2020 has been a pretty crappy year, I really enjoyed our small Thanksgiving.

Since we were not going to go anywhere Jennifer suggested we volunteer at Loveland’s Community Kitchen. While they did not need any additional volunteers, our family did take over the Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud kitchen and cooked the food for CK. It was 200 meals worth. The day started at 6:30am when the turkeys needed to be put in the oven. Fortunately the ovens are cook and hold Alto-Shaams, so I could set them and come back later without worry.

Around noon we all returned to the kitchen where Olivia took on the sweet potatoes as Mia and Jennifer made a ton of green bean casserole. Meanwhile, I spent that two hours carving eight turkeys. When we finished with the cooking, every pan was washed and every table and cart we used was washed, rinsed, and sanitized. In total we each put in about four hours of work before going home to prepare our own feast.

Fortunately Jennifer got a jump start on our dinner earlier in the morning. The table was mostly set (looking awesome) with the pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce already made. Plus we decided to go with a Honey baked Ham over turkey, so there was not a ton left to do. She did make a brie, cranberry bread that paired quite nicely with a vanilla porter. I also made the three girls some cosmos, which Mia did not really care for, so I took care of it. Sitting down at the end of a long day, I can truly say it was a great Thanksgiving for our family and I got to spend it with the people I am the most thankful for.

Three stages of image processing

Last week when I was photographing Giselle's senior portraits I got a few of Olivia as well. Of course, she is beautiful and fun to photograph. (i.e. not shy when a camera is pointed at her)

As I was processing the photos I figure why not document the three stages of straight out of camera, processing with Lightroom, to final image after sending it through the Nik Collection. Below are the same photo at all three stages.

You may not like the final image, and on a different day the processing may have not gone in that direction at all. But today this is what I like.

Olivia in the net

After not playing since 4th or 5th grade, Olivia decided to return to the soccer field, but this time as a goalkeeper. She started with her high school team (Loveland Indians) and continued on with club (United SC). She is rapidly improving, earning Player of the Week for her club team and more than anything else shows tremendous guts while in the net.

Pretty sure this is the first foul Olivia has committed in two seasons of play.

It is a ton fun (and at times a little stressful) to watch her play. Plus I get the opportunity to photograph more soccer.  Here are photos from her club team games that I have been able to photograph.
