How great would it be to wake up every morning and have that be the first thing you see? I think it would help make each day start a little better.

It has one of the deepest tubs, but shortest showers. The ceiling in the shower is probably not even six feet tall. It makes taking a shower a challenge when one is 6' 5". But I have such great memories of playing in the tub when I was a kid. For the curious people, it is made of "luster rock". I am not sure if that is the correct spelling, but my grandmother loved the stuff! It is in both bathrooms, the kitchen and even the stairs are made of it.
It started last year when the girls were outside looking for something to do. They were bored and could not think of a thing to do so I could just relax and enjoy the warm weather. So I sent them on a scavenger hunt. I thought up things for them to find and they would run off giving me a couple of minutes of bliss. But like all kids, they would quickly return with the item they found. (How did they find these things so fast?) It was a tricky balance, the item had to be difficult enough to find to buy me some time, but not so difficult they would give up.
Once they collected all of the items, they had to make it into something. This year, I wanted to see them make the face of a creature. (Mia is really into scary stories, so it seemed to fit.) The photo above is what they came up with. I liked it. Creative, yet still well done.
Then I had to leave and mom started to help out. While the faces may not be of a higher quality, although they might, the creativity soared! The first one they sent was sticking out its tongue.
The second was even more over the top. The message I got along with the image was, "Here's a boy crying. He has a unibrow and a wart."
The school Olivia attends, Jackson Park Elementary is an old building with some great architecture. Sure, some of the rooms are a little outdated, but they have the best back splashes at their water fountains. We were at the school this evening for a Passport Festival and Mia wanted to get a drink of water. Since I had my camera with me, I took the opportunity to photograph the cool fish that is above the water fountain. I just wish I knew what the original set up for the fountain and the roll the fish played.
Camera: Pentax K20 with Pentax DA18-55mm lens ISO = 800, Aperture=4.0 and the exposure was 1/8 of a second.
Lighting: School Hall lighting

Thanks for reading my ramblings.
I wanted to get the camera out, look for a good subject, set up my lights, and play around until I captured a cool image. I needed to do the dishes. Guess which won out.
Camera: Pentax K20 50mm prime lens ISO 200 Aperture f/2.8 Exposure 1/60 using aperture priority and exposure compensation at -0.5 (too lazy to adjust the flash)
Lighting: Pentax using P-TTL sitting on a toaster oven on the counter on camera left. Triggered by on camera flash and in-flash optical slave.
I think a red gel over the flash would be interesting, but I don't have any gels. Oh well.
