It is time to wake up Mia! She got up at 6am to go check on her caterpillar, but was talked into going back to sleep for a touch longer. Jeffrey

WUSTL Soccer Alumni Game

WUSTL alumni Yesterday I was lucky enough to play in the WUSTL Soccer Alumni game.  (No, the photo above is not me making a save.)  I believe this was my 17th alumni game.  Unfortunately it might be my last.  While in the net, I was out at the top of the box when a long ball was played down the attacking right wing, my left.  It was not going to be caught by the winger, but out of habit I sort of shuffled/jogged back towards the goal line.  As I was going I felt a very sharp pain in my right calf.  Almost as if I had just been hit with a rock or for some reason I thought perhaps a golf ball.  I started looking around for whatever just hit me, but found nothing.  It was right about then that I knew I was done.  Strained calf, out for the game.  Actually it is still tough to walk on today.  I can't stretch my right calf.  Try walking without stretching one calf muscle.  It is hard to do.

Fortunately this put me back on the sideline, with a camera in my hand.  A much safer place for me.  Unfortunately the Alumni ended up losing 2-0.  I sure it would have been worse if I played longer.  The Alumni were skilled and strong, the images below show Matt Twardowski easily shruging off an attack from behind and jogs away.

It was a great showing by alumni, even if the score did not end up in our favor.  We had over 20 alumni play and even had three alum who played in the 60's.

A game we play

It started last year when the girls were outside looking for something to do. They were bored and could not think of a thing to do so I could just relax and enjoy the warm weather. So I sent them on a scavenger hunt. I thought up things for them to find and they would run off giving me a couple of minutes of bliss. But like all kids, they would quickly return with the item they found. (How did they find these things so fast?) It was a tricky balance, the item had to be difficult enough to find to buy me some time, but not so difficult they would give up.

Once they collected all of the items, they had to make it into something. This year, I wanted to see them make the face of a creature. (Mia is really into scary stories, so it seemed to fit.) The photo above is what they came up with. I liked it. Creative, yet still well done.

Then I had to leave and mom started to help out. While the faces may not be of a higher quality, although they might, the creativity soared! The first one they sent was sticking out its tongue.

The second was even more over the top. The message I got along with the image was, "Here's a boy crying. He has a unibrow and a wart."

Photo Of The Day 02/10/09 - Water Fountain

The school Olivia attends, Jackson Park Elementary is an old building with some great architecture.  Sure, some of the rooms are a little outdated, but they have the best back splashes at their water fountains.  We were at the school this evening for a Passport Festival and Mia wanted to get a drink of water.  Since I had my camera with me, I took the opportunity to photograph the cool fish that is above the water fountain.  I just wish I knew what the original set up for the fountain and the roll the fish played.  090210-JP water fountain-8604

Camera:  Pentax K20 with Pentax DA18-55mm lens ISO = 800, Aperture=4.0 and the exposure was 1/8 of a second.

Lighting:  School Hall lighting
