Sledding!!

When eight inches of snow dumps on St. Louis, you can pretty much be assured it will be a Snow Day!

Today was unique for our family, because the snow planets aligned and everyone was off! So sledding was a definite must. Here is how the day went.

First we had to clean the cars off.

Then we found out with this much powdery snow, it can easily find its way to an exposed wrist. Nothing a toe sock with a few well placed snips can't fix.

Then we finally made it to the hill.

The sledding was then followed by great soup at the Bread Co.

My article on the U. City Patch site

A few weeks ago I was contacted by the Local Editor for UniversityCityPatch.com. Some how she found this website and asked if I would be interested in writing a blog posting about being a dad in U. City. How could I say no?

While I am definitely not a writer, I figured this would be something fun to do and a good way to improve my writing. It might also give me something to work on in the mornings, now that I am an early riser, instead of just saying good morning to my friends. So I noodled the idea of writing about being a dad around for a few days and one question kept forcing its way to the front. "Am I lucky or lazy?"

Penguins on parade

VIDEO0020.3gp Watch on Posterous

Durning the months of December-February, the St.Louis Zoo puts on a penguin parade every Sunday at 2 pm.

Here is a quick video. Pretty cool, especially since the zoo is free to enter!

More photos will come later.

Penguins on parade

NOTE: This post has been updated (01/17/11) to include a video (click first image to watch) , photos and more story.

During the months of December-February, the St.Louis Zoo puts on a penguin parade every Sunday at 2 pm. It is quite fun to be a part of, and you almost are a part of it. While the zoo does not want the spectators to go touch the penguins, they will let the penguins walk right up to you.

The zoo keepers also do a pretty good job on not hurrying the parade so everyone has a good oportunity to see and photograph the penguins. Can you really hurry a penguin?

Of course there is more to the St. Louis Zoo than just the penguins.

Freezing in the Loop

My girls and I took to the U. City Loop today to see just what was going on in the 2011 Loop Ice Carnival. There were a number of different things going on, but mostly we got a few temporary tattoos, played a few games, went down an ice slide, enjoyed a s'more, and finally warmed up at Bread Co with some hot chocolate. More photos from the day are at jeffreyphoto.com
